Why BioSPHERE Boodja?

This project is a landmark moment for Goomalling and Western Australia. It is a celebration of Country, community, and creativity – an opportunity for people from far and wide to connect to Country, to each other, and to the stories that unite us all. It is a chance to witness the power of collaboration – where contemporary art meets ancient wisdom, and where every person is invited to take part in something bigger than themselves.

BioSPHERE Boodja is an opportunity to see, hear, feel, and remember:

We are all one.

Join us. Be part of something extraordinary.

A Groundbreaking Collaboration Honouring Land, Story & Connection

BioSPHERE Boodja is more than an event – it is a profound artistic and cultural collaboration, uniting world-class artists, Indigenous wisdom, and community spirit to create an unforgettable experience. Rooted in the belief that we are all one – connected to the earth, to each other, and to the stories that shape us – this project invites all who attend to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

At the heart of BioSPHERE Boodja is the extraordinary vision of Fleur Schell, an internationally renowned ceramic artist who grew up in Goomalling Koomal. Her deep connection to this land has inspired a project that brings together art, storytelling, and technology in a way never seen before.

Crucially, BioSPHERE Boodja is guided by Ballardong Elder Tracy DeGrussa, whose wisdom and cultural leadership ensure the project remains deeply rooted in the spirit and stories of this land. Tracy’s presence is a powerful reminder of the significance of Boodja (Country), and her collaboration ensures that the heart of this event beats with authenticity, respect, and truth.

This is a groundbreaking partnership between Steven Alyan, a master of projection art and immersive storytelling, and the Goomalling community. Together, they are transforming space into a living, breathing expression of shared history and creativity – melding ancient narratives with cutting-edge visual experiences.

Adding to the magic of BioSPHERE Boodja, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre will be in Goomalling Koomal ahead of the event, working with the community to create spectacular, large-scale puppets. These puppets – crafted through workshops and collective storytelling – will take centre stage in the grand procession, bringing movement, spirit, and wonder to the streets of Goomalling Koomal.

This union of visionary artistry, Indigenous knowledge, and community engagement makes BioSPHERE Boodja one of the most significant cultural events ever to take place in Goomalling Koomal.
